04.01.20 — this is so fucking important♥️

I want to get this of my chest…

The purpose and reason behind a “healthy”, balanced lifestyle isn’t too outlive everyone around you. For me personally, and I can tell you right now, that for others also, the purpose is truly to do with the mind.

Any form of exercise whether it falls under muscle-strengthening, endurance based, flexibility and balance may be highly associated with wanting to achieve a certain aesthetic. Yes, this is true for I’d say majority of people who engage in any form of exercise. However, there is a fine line between looking strong and being strong.

Because of the heavy association between “healthy living” and “looking good”, we tend to forget the “feeling good” aspect. Because the “feeling good” aspect is the unfolding of what’s happening inside your head — you know the term we so often throw around — “endorphins being released”. There is actually a lot going on inside our brains when we exercise.

Exercise sounds daunting for most but it doesn’t have to be. Remember — something as fun as dancing is a form of exercise too. Take your dog for a walk, ride a bike, hula-hoop, hike with some friends, join a sports team; there are honestly so many ways to be active which doesn’t have to be in the form of running on a treadmill or lifting weights. Switch it up if it gets boring.

Now, eating habits… Being on a diet isn’t always to do with weight-loss or again wanting to attain a certain aesthetic. Yes, many fitness junkies tend to modify their diet according to their exercise regime and lifestyle. But a healthy, balanced diet has huge benefits on not just the body but the mind also. Eat your fair share of greens, stay hydrated, and lower your sugar intake.

A balanced diet is important because without good nutrition, our bodies become more prone to diseases. A balanced diet and exercise go hand in hand because… well, the proof is in the pudding. I don’t think you need to make a comparison. Healthy people are happy people, and if an unhealthy person claims to be happy; well, healthy people are happier.

A good night’s sleep. I can’t stress on this enough. And this is one piece of the puzzle that so often gets overlooked at. Get the recommended amount of sleep for a whole week, and then get less than the recommended amount of sleep for a whole week. Compare the two and I’m sure you’ll notice the difference. A good night’s sleep is just as important as exercise and a balanced diet.

These are the three ingredients to a happy life according to my opinion. And if they don’t make you happy, rest assured these three things will definitely make navigating your way through life a lot easier.
