1. You Were Right – RUFUS
Almost feels like waving a red flag in the air and saying, “You’ve won.” Admitting that the infatuation was far too strong that you start to miss that person, keeping any hope alive that they would come back.
2. Holding On – Tourist feat. Josef Salvat x Niia
When old flames become ghosts that haunt you. Beautiful melody and harmonies. Amazing production. Those piano chords at the very end… damn! Amazing tune.
3. I’d Be Lost – Sarah Blasko
Contemplating this one. Not Blasko’s best work but it didn’t take long for it to grow on me. I don’t think I’ve ever voted for Blasko in the countdown which is crazy considering I love her work so much.
4. Eves The Behaviour – Electrical
I thought this sounded a lot like CHURCHES when I first heard it. Love the fact that she says ‘New York’ in the first verse. Lyrics are very Purity Ring-esque.
5. Crystals – Of Monsters and Men
I feel like she’s describing a relationship lacking emotional connection. I absolutely adore this one. “Cover your crystal eyes and let your colours bleed and blend with mine.”
6. The Less I Know, The Better – Tame Impala
Ignorance is bliss, and off course another song about unrequited love.
7. Can’t Feel My Face – The Weeknd
We all know this is about substance abuse. Abel only ever sings about pussy and being faded anyway.
8. Foolish – Apline
“You bought too much metaphor to the relationship to what I see, to how I kiss. Yuck. I’m hating what I’m feeling but I’m so foolishly attracted to you.”
9. On Fire – Carmada feat. Maribelle
Car anthems. This is the 2015 equivalent of High by Peking Duck, maybe not as satisfying but it’s still great. I really fucking love the piano in this as well. And that sjidechaining!
10. Young – Vallis Alps
Beautiful. It was either this or that track by Belu, had to go with this one.
